Tuesday 9/06 Happy Birthday Nikola!!

Good morning girls, and a HUGE happy birthday to Nikola! Wishing you a wonderful birthday and thinking of you today. Sending you a huge birthday hug!
Did you watch the video of Ms. Cowman, Ms. Fallon and Ms.Stedman yesterday? If you missed it, here it is again https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYjM6UR15Ao I hope that it will make you excited to get involved in our Virtual Sports Day. There will be lots of videos from different teachers on the day, including yours truly! with loads of suggestions for different fun activities, and we are hoping to put the 'active' in the word activity!
First, as always, some movement. How about some HIIT this morning, get the heart rate up? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yv2XE_Ut3KU or yoga if you're feeling a little less energetic. Here's a 10-minute yoga flow with Adriene and her dog https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Td6zFtZPkJ4
Next some English:
1) Online Readers on www.oxfordowl.co.uk
Or if you can't log in, go to https://www.worldofdavidwalliams.com/elevenses/ and choose one of your favourite David Walliams books to listen to, or read a a book that you have at home. The great news is that the libraries have re-opened, so hopefully you will all be able to get some new books there too.
2) Jollygrammar spellings; See list for the week below. Tonight's three spellings are comment, payment, assortment. Have a guess what each word means and then make sure to check each word here https://www.dictionary.com/ and write it out in a sentence of your own. Get someone to check that you know the spellings off by heart, and do make sure to write them out into sentences.
3) Treasury p.78: spelling mistakes. Two of each three spellings is incorrect. Write out the correct spellings and if you're not sure look in the dictionary here https://www.dictionary.com/ or google the word. Skip (B) as you are not allowed to write into the books, and go straight to (C) write the opposite. Another word for opposite is 'antonym'
4) Revision of antonyms here https://ie.ixl.com/ela/class-3/choose-the-antonym
Maths:
1) www.10ticks.com for Mental Maths. Email me for log on details at room12@stbrigidsthecoombe.ie
2) More Mental Maths revision here https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button Choose any of the topics and try to beat the clock!
3) Check answers to p.116 below as a screenshot, and you can also check to answers to today's maths straight after too. They are on the same screenshot below. I know that some of you are finding fractions, decimals and percentages tough. I'm looking in to finding some videos to help you. The ones I have found so far on YouTube do it a different way to us, so I don't want to confuse you any further! But bear with me, I promise to do my best to help.
4) Mathemagic p.117. You are being asked to find the sale price. The original price will always be more as the shops will want customers to see they are getting it for less. The first example in the picture above is a pair of trousers that originally coast €70. They are reduced by 30%. So you must find 30% of €70 and then subtract this from €70.
So, first you swap 30% to a fraction = 30/100 or 3/10 (three tenths)
Next you get 3/10 of €70 so you divide by the bottom and multiply by the top. €70 divided by 10 is €7, and multiply by 3 (7 x 3) = €21.
So 3/10, or 30% of €70 is €21. That's the amount of money off the original price. So to find the price of the trousers on sale you take €21 from the price at the beginning €70 - €21 = €49. So the answer is €49

Music:
Do you know the cup song? It's so much fun to learn. All you need is a plastic cup. If you haven't seen it, it's from the film Pitch Perfect, and here's the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmSbXsFE3l8
The words are attached on a PDF below, have a go pracitising the rhythm of it. It takes a little practise, but is totally addictive! Here's a step-by-step tutorial. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5kYLOb6i5I Have fun with it, and see if the other people in your family want to have a go too!
Have a lovely Tuesday and I will check in with you all again tomorrow,
Le Grá,
Ms. Simcox
