Rhyme Time!

Nursery rhymes are important for young children because they help develop an ear for our language. Both rhyme and rhythm help kids hear the sounds and syllables in words, which helps kids learn to read!

Here are three new rhymes for you to learn at home based on the theme of Spring and Easter. Scroll to the bottom to find some activities you can do with these rhymes.

Easter Bunny

Once I saw the Easter Bunny Come hop, hop, hop
So I cried “Dear Bunny, Will I stop, stop, stop?”

I ran to the window
To say “how do you do?”
But he shook his fluffy tail,
And said “Happy Easter to You”.

Use the activities below when exploring the new rhymes:

  • Draw a picture about the story in the rhyme.
  • Clap to the rhythm of the rhyme.
  • Pick out the rhyming words. Try to think of other words that rhyme with these.
  • Say the rhyme using different voices (loud/quiet/deep/squeaky/etc.)
  • Act out the rhymes with your family or even your teddies!
  • Look at the rhyme written down. Find the tricky words and the sounds you know.

The secret is to practice, practice, practice! Learning these rhymes off my heart is brilliant for your child's language development and reading skills!

Enjoy,
