Monday 20th - Friday 24th April 2020
Welcome back everyone. I hope you all had a lovely Easter break and the Easter bunny brought you some delicious chocolate! I am missing you all and hoping you are all well and safe at home.
Here is some of the work we would be doing together in school this week.Don’t worry if you don’t have a printer, use a copy or a page at home to write out some of the work. You can also do the worksheets looking at on the screen of your laptop or ipad.
Don't forget to tune into RTE 2 at 11am each week day for school hub.

Ms. Fallon
Rhyme of the week: Go, Go, Go!.
We can fly in a plane, we can ride on a train.
In a boat we can row, we can go, go, go!
We go near, we go far, in a bus or in a car.
We go high, we go low, so where should we go?
Sound of the week: oi

This is a sound you did last year in senior infants.
Try reading these words:
Oil coin boil soil join
Noise moist toilet point boiler
I have attached your spelling list at the bottom of this post.
I have also attached some ‘oi’ activities for you to do at home.
Tricky words:
Try learn one a day, put them into sentences and questions. Try and find them in books you read!
Call
Well
Think
Going
Walk

A fun way to practice reading and writing tricky words is this rainbow writing activity. Draw 2 clouds on a page and lines for the rainbow joining them. Practice writing the word in different colours on each line, the words should be stuck in your mind when you finish! I have included a template at the bottom if you want to use it and print it either.

Writing:
Write some sentences about what you did over the Easter break. Remember to answer Charlie’s questions – Who? What? When? Where? Why?
I have attached a sheet for you to write about what you see when you are on your way to school.
Write sentences with your spellings of the week.
Grammar:
Can you remember the grammar we have learned so far?
What is a noun? What is the difference between a common and a proper noun?
What is a verb?
What is an adjective?
Give examples of each.
This week we are learning about adverbs.
You all remember that adjectives describe nouns.
So the soft teddy, the red bike, the long table, the slimy snake.
Adverbs describe verbs. The action to remember an adverb is banging one fist on top of the other one. The colour is orange.
They swim quickly.
She sings loudly.
He whispers softy.
The snail moves slowly.
The dog plays happily.
The child cries sadly.
There is a worksheet at the end of the post from our jollyphonics book about adverbs, give it a go.
There is also a sheet full of adverbs, see if you can put any of them into sentences.
Oral language / Geography / History: Transport
An excellent and essential way of learning is through talking and discussing topics. Every Monday in school we talk about our news from the weekend, asking and answering lots of questions (who, what, where, when, why, how).
CJ Fallon are a publishing company and they have an excellent oral language programme called Rainbow. They have made all their resources free while the schools are closed.

First this week, go to unit 9 ‘The Train Journey’.
Have fun exploring the different games and activities in this unit.
I have attached a document below questions you can ask and what you can discuss. There are also pictures and worksheets attached at the bottom of this post all about transport. There are some lovely pictures of types of transport and also transport in different parts of the world.
Sciences: Materials
Materials are substances used to make things. For example a table can be made from the material wood. Can you look around your home and name some more materials?
Look down below at the materials activities.
Go on a materials hunt in your home and draw pictures labelling things made from each material.
Maths:
I have attached 3 maths pages that have short activities for each day this week. They have revision activities for you to try at home. If you have a printer you can print them out, otherwise do them on a page or in a copy.
Practice counting as far as you can go in twos and in fives.
I have attached worksheets from your busy at maths book.
You can use the Busy at Maths resources for free on www.cjfallon.ie under student resources. Go to first class, maths, busy at maths, interactives.
